Every 2026 RAV4 is a hybrid now — there’s no longer a non-hybrid trim. That’s the clear MPG winner of this class: up to 43 combined in front-wheel-drive form, still 41-42 with all-wheel drive. Also the most powerful of the three: 226 hp front-wheel drive, 236 hp if you step up to AWD. If fuel economy or long-run running cost is the deciding factor for a compact SUV shopper, this is the one to beat.
Torque isn’t listed above because Toyota doesn’t publish one clean combined figure for the standard hybrid the way it does horsepower — reported breakdowns vary by source (gas engine and electric motor torque don’t simply add, since they’re delivered differently). Horsepower figure above is for the front-wheel-drive hybrid trim; AWD trims differ slightly.
Who it’s for
The RAV4 is the default answer for anyone whose main question is “which compact SUV costs the least to run” — the hybrid-only lineup and class-leading mpg make the running-cost math straightforward. Buyers who prioritize interior refinement over efficiency should cross-shop the CX-5; those who need more outright cargo space should look at the CR-V.
